Carmel River State Beach - 831/624-4909 - Located in Monterey
County on the southern edge of Carmel. There is a developed day use area
on the beach. The west end of this south-facing sand beach is a rocky
substrate with reefs and kelp beds. Another portion of the park (known as
Monastery Beach) allows for access right off Highway 1. This is a sandy
beach with reefs located off-shore. Since this is the mid-point of the
small bay, there can be a very dangerous shore break at this location.
Scuba
Diving at Point Lobos State Reserve - 831/624-4909 -
Located in Monterey County, a few miles south of Carmel. There is a small
day use parking lot at Whaler's Cove where boats may be hand launched.
Whaler's Cove is a preserve and therefore nothing may be removed from
within its boundaries. Sea otters are commonly found in the cove's kelp
beds. The number of divers allowed is limited so reservations are
necessary. Fresh water and restrooms are available.
