DECEMBER -- Gray Whales migrate south. Dolphins form large aggregations. Elephant Seals come ashore to breed.

JANUARY -- Southbound Gray Whale migration peaks by mid-month.

FEBRUARY -- Gray Whales migrate both north and south. Dolphins continue winter behavior.

MARCH -- Gray Whales peak in Northbound Migration. Dolphins disperse.

APRIL -- Humpback Whales return. Resident Harbor Seals begin giving birth. Northern Elephant Seals return to molt.

MAY -- Humpback Whales often seen. Killer Whale and Gray Whale mother and calf pairs migrate north. First Minke Whales appear. California Sea Lions begin to migrate south.

JUNE -- Blue Whales begin to be seen. Humpback Whales are common. Dolphin sightings are sporadic.

July -- Blue & Humpback Whales are seen often. Harbor & Dall's Porpoise calves may be visible.

AUGUST - Blue & Humpback Whales still frequently seen. Fin Whales may be seen. Dolphins encountered regularly. Baird's & Cuvier's Beaked Whales begin to be seen. Male California Sea Lions return. Long-beaked Common Dolphin may appear (in warm years). Blue Sharks & Ocean Sun-Fish frequently seen.

SEPTEMBER - Humpback & Blue Whales seen occasionally. Dolphins in large groups.

OCTOBER - Humpback & Blue Whales migrate south. Dolphin still numerous.

NOVEMBER - Some Bottlenose Dolphin may appear. Gray Whales migrate south.

DECEMBER - Dolphin form large groups. Northern Elephant Seals come ashore to breed.
