I took 30 days for a European and Near East adventure back in April 2001. I wrote long email postcards to myself and a circle of friends. Rome after 20 years' absence, Turkey and Greece where I'd never been, and my friend Paris, all made up my agenda. From Istanbul to Samos, Greece, I joined a Rick Steves' 14-day tour, "Best of Turkey". We delved into antique humanities as well as modern history.
